Advent candles are lit for the first time at Christmas.
Advent candle sets consist of four candles representing Peace, Joy, Love, and Hope. The purple candles represent penance and longing; the pink candle represents the joy in the expectation of the birth of Christ. Blue candles may be used in place of purple candles.
